What happens to an estate if there is no will?

Without a will, the estate is distributed according to the Distribution Act 1958 (for non-Muslims) or faraid rules (for Muslims). The family will need to apply for letters of administration before any assets can be transferred. We can walk you through this at a pace that suits you.

How long does the estate administration process take?

Timelines vary depending on the size and complexity of the estate, and whether there are any disagreements among beneficiaries. Straightforward estates often take between four and twelve months. We keep families informed at each stage without unnecessary jargon.

Can a will cover both civil and faraid distribution?

For Muslim estates in Malaysia, faraid principles govern the distribution of most assets regardless of what a will states. A will can still serve a useful purpose — for example, in appointing an executor or covering assets that sit outside faraid. We explain how each applies to your specific situation.

What are your fees, and when do I need to pay?

We set out all fees in writing before work begins. Will preparation starts from RM 190, letters of administration from RM 615, and dispute support from RM 400. We discuss payment arrangements at the first consultation — there is no obligation to proceed at that meeting.

Is the first consultation free?

Please contact us to arrange an initial discussion. We prefer to speak with you first to understand your situation before quoting a fee. There is no pressure to commit at the initial meeting.

Can you help if family members are in disagreement over an estate?

Yes. We handle inheritance disputes with care, aiming for outcomes that are fair to everyone involved. Where possible, we encourage approaches that preserve family relationships rather than deepen divisions. We represent individual beneficiaries or the estate as appropriate.
